This weeks events include; making a robotic arm with a short animation, and continuing to slowly build the robot character.
Okay so I decided this week to do something a little different from usual. It started Friday morning when I decided to go randomly searching across the internet for something to build. I finally decided to build a robotic arm like the ones you may find an a factory and I spent a whole 2 hours on Friday starting to make the arm.
On Monday I decided to finish off the arm which didn't take long to finish making. By the afternoon I got the crazy idea to make a small animation with it. So that afternoon I made the video below. The most difficult part of it wasn't the making the arm, but rather getting my head around the rigid body simulations, fraction of the ground, and getting a cube to stick to the arm and then letting go.
Yeah it's nothing special but it amused me to make it and it drove me to learn to do things I hadn't done before which is always a good thing. The sound effects are from SoundBible.com and were dited together in Audacity by me.
I decided to start making the arms and legs of my robot this week focusing on the joints with special attention to the shoulder. At first I was going to use a ball and socket joint but after working on the robotic arm this week, I went with single direction rotation joints. This means that multiple joints need to be used to get a full range of motion.
It takes more work but the joints should look more realistic and more practical. I will be next adding in the feet and hands. I just need to design them first.
