It's me again with a short update on my little Viper launch project. The aim: create a ship that could launch a Colonial Viper. Thats not so hard I mean all you need is a ship that can take a 52 meter launch tube, enough space to store more vipers (ideally 12), a way to bring the Vipers back on board, a way to defend itself (as it would be a target cos it can launch Vipers), and have space for the crew (quarters, CIC, Mess hall). So thats waht it needed but I wanted to be obvious that the ship wasn't originally designed for this purpose and I wanted one that could fly in atmosphere.
So the type of ship I chose to model the exterior on is a Colonial Starliner like Colonial One (aka the Presidents Ship). As I mentioned in my last blog I want this design to be based before they had creted there Battlestars and that would be a good 50 years before we see that type of ship so I decided to make some changes to the design. For instance its bigger; my design is about 1 and a half the size of Colonial One as to accommodate the Viper storage which I wasn't cordially going to add, but then it would only have like 3 Vipers and thats not even half a squadron not to mention there would be no space to fix/reload them.
So heres the plan for what I'm going to do in this project; finish modelling the ship, finish the weaponry, Ad interior rooms and connecting corridors, texture the ship, create a master Rig (never done that before), create a short animation with the ship and a Viper launching.
So yeah this is going to take a little while to do as I can't commit all my time to it at the moment. Hopefully it won't take more than a month but I might be dreaming with that time estimation.
