Elite Time Line:
Modelling Base -> Sculpting Base -> Modelling Armour -> Texturing Armour -> Rigging -> Animating
This weeks Weekend Challenge focused on sculpting in skin details the Halo Elite I have been working on and as a bonus, starting the rigging process.
I spent most of Saturday laying out the foundations by UV Wrapping the mesh, duplicating it, and finally starting the sculpt. Most of the sculpt was done using mirror symmetry to speed the whole process up. However, single side elements were added to the face so things didn't look too similar.
After the sculpting was completed, the geometry was baked into 2 UV textures that were then applied to duplicate mesh. This makes the Elite easier to handle due to the vast difference in polygon count.
The final step this week was to start rigging the Elite. This step was not meant to be started for another few weeks but I decided to start it anyway since I had a little free time. The entire bone system that will be used to move the character is now in built and in place. However, modifications still need to be made to smooth out the join movements and, shape keys need to be created to control the muscles.
Next week I will start to modelling the armour for the Elite and if there is time, I will complete the rig of the main body.
