It may have been a little longer than I originally planed to get an article out but I'm here now so I'll post a little update on what I've been doing this past 2 weeks. First lets go over the Weekend Challenge I did this weekend where I made a Viper.
Ah the Viper Mrk 2, the main fighter of the Battlestar Galactica. Of the classes of Viper shown in the franchise this type would have to be my favourite. Its based upon the ones used in the original run of Battlestar Galactica but it was slightly redesigned for use in the reimagined series.
Fictional History Lesson Time! The Viper Mrk 2 was used in the first Human-Cylon war and thats what its was best remembered for. By the time the Cylons attacked again some 40 years later (the reimagined series starting point) these fighters were reduced to museum exhibits with only 1 being used in flight in a memorial. The then in use Mrk 7's were susceptible to a virus and so became unusable in the conflict and easily destroyed. Meanwhile aboard the Battlestar Galactica which now had only 1 working Viper (the mrk 2) which was escorting another ship, Commander Adama ordered the museum exhibits of the Vipers to be fueled, armed and launched. And thats why there awesome. 40 years and they still kick Cylon ass.
My intention was to recreate the Viper so it could be used in some future works. The outer shell is all there with only needing some texturing to add badges and thruster ports. I still need to create the landing gear and the cockpit at the very least before it can be used
If I get round to doing all those other things then I'll probably make a rig to control it all (direction, location, engine flare, thrusters, fins, etc.) and I may even make a little launch animation or make the flight deck it could sit on. Not sure if this will be done in the next weekend challenge or not.
So for 1 afternoon last week I worked a little on Darth Vader. I maily added in some basic legs so I can get the his height right. I also worked on the topology of the arms trying to make out the main muscles and make it ready for rigging.
So recently I came across another freelancing platform and I've decided to join its community. I've already make up a profile on the site which has been approved but I am still needing to add a few more things to it before I would call my profile complete.
That make 3 freelancing sites that I'm on; Freelancer.com, PeoplePerHour and Upwork.
