Work started Saturday morning with the basic reshape of the hand. The fingers were widened at each joint to give a more of a V shape to them and the joints were replaced from tubes to balls as to allow better deformation when rigging and animating the mesh. The detail that runs along the top of the fingers was also given a new material that is only slightly different from the rest to make the stand out a little. When I modelled this last week, I make the entire forearm but I found this week that I made it far too long. This lead to lengthening the jacket and then upon realising it was far too long, shortening it again and cutting part of the forearm off. It was an important part of the character as the sleeve covered it up.
So this weekend I finished off the console on the chair and reshaped the robotic hand I made last week to give a little more of a "evil" look. I have also started to rig the character starting with the hand and rigging the upper torso so the arms could be repositioned. I haven't started to rig the head as I realised I haven't modelled the teeth yet so that needs to be done first.
The console was the easiest part in modelling this week as I created most of it last week. All that was added was the base to the big purple/blue thing and the device on the left arm of the chair. I also created a very basic scratch texture and applied it to the console to give it a more worn look. This is a temporary texture that will be replaced in the future.
The final thing done this week was the rigging. I have created a basic bone armature for the mesh which covers the should be relatively correct for someone of this stature. The main difference is that there are no legs and the left arm has only 1 long bone to control it. The reason for one bone is that I've never seen that arm more and I'm not sure if there is one there in the first place. The right hand has a similar bone structure to a normal hand but has a few less bones as it is a more rigid structure.
Next week I will focus on making his teeth and start rigging the head for facial expression and lip syncing.
As always, follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Deviant Art for all my updates!
This weeks weekly round-up will probably be on Wednesday or Friday this week as Thursday is Christmas and on that note, Merry Holidays to one and all.
Oh and a shout-out to my friend Craig who just tied the knot on Saturday! Congrats and I wish all the best.
